Paul Carney is the Industrial
Electronics Instructor at TTCP. He taught this program for twelve years
before leaving in 1996 for an electrical engineering position at Pneumatic Systems Company
in Jackson, Tennessee. He gained valuable experience in industrial automation design and
programming using state of the art equipment and software. He looks forward to using his
freshened perspective for the benefit of his students. Paul lives in Paris with his wife, Kathy, their daughter, Alex, and two Yorkshire Terriers. His hobbies include camping and motorcycles. |
The mission of the Industrial Electronics Program is to prepare individuals for employment as electrical and electronic technicians and to provide supplemental training to those already employed in the electronic industry.

There isn't a person
today whose life isn't touched by electronics. Most people are amazed by the way
electricity works. Many people are afraid to touch anything that might "shock"
them. However, it's not magic, only science in action. Just a few minutes of training and
a person can begin to feel more comfortable with electricity. A few more hours and you may
feel like taking something apart to see if it really works the way the book said. You'll
find the discovery process more fun than you ever imagined. Think of it, you analyzing the
problems in an industrial programmable controller
and fixing it! The Electronics Program doesn't use the traditional classroom teaching methods. The student will use a textbook that makes learning progressive with self-tests that moves you through the process. The book asks questions as you read and a chapter review completes the process. A laboratory experiment compliments the text and helps confirm what you read earlier. Additionally, a computer aided lesson which parallels the course is used to further enhance the learning process. At any point where you have difficulty, the instructor is ready to assist you. The individual student can progress at his/her own pace with minimal interference or boredom. This course as been recognized by Jackson State Community College as providing course material equal to the technical aspects of their engineering course. You can apply to Jackson State and obtain 31 semester hours of college credit toward an engineering degree. |
